Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher has been speaking to, or is at least quoted by the Daily Star (of all papers) about his loan with Barnsley.

Fletcher’s managed three-goals in his seven-matches for the Reds so far having been brought to Oakwell by former boss Lee Johnson with him impressing under Paul Heckingbottom since.

The 20-year-old has revealed this move first came about after he had turned out for Man United in an U21 game with him then ‘pulled aside’ by Warren Joyce to be told there was ‘interest from a few clubs’ in taking him on loan.

One of them was Barnsley!

Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell had both spent time on loan with us previously so he obviously spoke to these two about the prospect of coming to Barnsley with the pair, as we would expect, recommending he join us.

‘Yeah, I spoke to them before I came and they couldn`t speak highly enough of the club. They said to go because I`ll enjoy my time there. I am enjoying my time here at the moment. I`m just developing and looking to come back to United a better player.’

He’ll certainly return having benefited from his spell, if he gets a chance at Old Trafford or not will be known in time to come!
