The Official Website has this morning confirmed George Maris has been allowed to leave Barnsley for a short-term loan with Guiseley AFC.

Maris, who has two first-team appearances to his name at Barnsley so far, will spent the next month on loan with Guiseley as the Reds teenager looks to benefit from some regular football.

This will be the expectancy; it’ll certainly be the hope anyway, for the next month at least with the 19-year-old linking up with the Non-League side with a debut coming against Southport on Tuesday.

He needs football to develop so all being well this is going to be a win-win for all concerned!

Another two, who are closer to the first-team than Maris at this stage, are Adam Davies and Nick Townsend, with Lee Johnson quoted by the Sheffield Star on his aims for them both.

Obviously you can only play one ‘keeper, so you’ll always see one left unhappy!

Both have had chances this season with both impressing, and also making mistakes too as any ‘keeper will – but this is always highlighted more, with Johnston left with a tough call on who is his no.1.

He’s said that he’s looking for one, of his ‘joint number ones’ to do is force his hand.

‘We’ve got two young keepers and they two are excellent young goalkeepers.

‘It’s difficult because they’re joint number ones really and one of them has to come to the fore mentally, be strong, and say ‘this is my shirt.’

‘Both have made mistakes this year and both have made fantastic saves this year.’

The Head Coach added, and admitted, it was ‘a toss of a coin job’ at the moment with it down to one of them to ‘take the mantle’ with him challenging both to ’embrace’ the competition and not fear it!

Both will get chances but a settled no.1 is needed really with, at this stage, the ball in Townsend’s court so if he can keep this out of the net it’ll be his to keep you feel having started in the last two-matches ahead of Davies.

Who do you think should be the no.1 at Oakwell?
