Barnsley are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Alfie Mawson in the two one victory over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend at Gresty Road was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Mawson was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Mawson settled matters as Barnsley moved to ninth in Sky Bet League 1, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra. Often the man getting on the end of set-pieces, Mawson took this one…firing a 20-yard free-kick into the top corner to clinch the points.’

It’s always good to see us represented in this way, and well played to Mawson for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.

Full Team:

Bartosz Bialkowski (Ipswich Town), Peter Hartley (Plymouth Argyle), Alfie Mawson (Barnsley), Darren Jones (Newport County), Jordi Gomez (Blackburn Rovers), Michael O’Connor (Port Vale), George Saville (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough), Andre Gray (Burnley), Will Grigg (Wigan Athletic), Yaya Sanogo (Charlton Athletic).

Manager – Neil Warnock (Rotherham United).
