Barnsley made one final foray into the transfer market before the window closed on Thursday.

Having secured Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner on loan the Reds made a later swoop ahead of the transfer deadline to complete a deal for Swansea forward Oli McBurnie.

McBurnie, 21, has come to Oakwell on a season-long loan.

Commenting on his arrival Paul Heckingbottom told the Official Website: ‘Oli is a player that we targeted early this summer and have successfully brought to the Club, which has not been a secret. He is a Yorkshire lad and has jumped at the chance to come here on loan for the season. He will add some height and goal threat, along with that raw element of being an unknown quantity to Championship defences. I am looking forward to him coming into training and getting started.’

The 6″ 2′ forward started his professional career at Bradford, making his debut as a 17 year old, with his promise brought to the attention of Premier League club Swansea, who signed McBurnie in 2015.

After a successful loan at Newport he was recalled by Swansea and played a part in their Premier League survival campaign last season. The Scottish U21 international had featured from the subs bench in all three of the Swans’ topflight fixtures so far this term.
