Reports in the Barnsley Chronicle say Lee Johnson’s attempt to bring Jonathon Forte to Oakwell, so he could work with him again, have failed.

This could lead to a move for Izale McLeod, who had also been linked with a move to the club.

Oldham’s former Scunthorpe, Sheff United and Southampton striker Forte was in talks but these have broken down with the Reds now linked with Crawley’s ex-Derby and MK Dons man McLeod?

29-year-old Forte and Johnson worked together at Oldham with our Head Coach keen to do this again but a Barnsley Chronicle club source had apparently been told ‘the move had stalled and the Reds were looking at other targets.’

One of those targets could be 30-year-old, scorer of 21-goals in a Crawley side relegated from League 1, McLeod? He wouldn’t be expected to remain at the Broadfield Stadium this season but a problem with this one though could be the asking price?

He’s still got another year on his contract and any move to bring him to Oakwell could involve ‘a significant fee’, which chances are – and rightly so in many ways, unless it’s a fair deal – wouldn’t be agreed.

McLeod was a thorn in our side, as he was plenty of others to be fair, as he scored the winner at Oakwell on the opening day and then helped himself to a hat-trick in a five-one thrashing in the return fixture!

We’ll see what comes of this but it wouldn’t be unexpected for Johnson to continue this search elsewhere would it?
