Barnsley defender Jimmy McNulty is now a free agent after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The 28 year old signed in the summer of 2011 and went on to make 61 appearances for the club.

McNulty had a good first season with the club but his form dropped severely in his second season and this season he was loaned out to League One Tranmere.

The decision to offer him a new contract in the summer seemed bizarre. He had fallen down the pecking order under previous boss David Flitcroft and was never likely to feature much.

New boss Danny Wilson clearly doesn`t see McNulty has part of his plans and the January clear-out continues.

Vital Barnsley would like to thank McNulty for his efforts during his time at the club and also those of Chris Dagnall, Scott Wiseman and David Perkins. All played their part in something special last season, it is just a shame that it hasn`t happened this season for the club.
