Mido Signs

The 29-year-old Egyptian Mido has signed a one-year deal with Barnsley, subject to international clearance.

He said he was happy to get everything sorted and once he had spoken to the manager the decision to come to Oakwell was easy.

He had kept his house in England and his family stayed in England so I always knew I would come back.

Mido, who has also played for Tottenham, Middlesbrough, Wigan and West Ham, was released by Zamalek in May after falling out of favour with boss Hassan Shehata.

The former Ajax striker left after a dispute between the board and Shehata.

Shehata initially quit his post citing the board’s refusal to meet his demands for changing the squad, but was reinstated after Mido was released.

He has so far made 114 appearances in English football, scoring 28 goals, between 2005 and 2010.

However he failed to score in nine games for his last team in England, West Ham, during an unsuccessful loan spell at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Only time will tell if this is a good signing for the reds but it is one that is well worth the gamble and with the signings so far this season I am starting to feel a lot more optimistic.
