Terms with George Moncur were agreed last week with his arrival at Barnsley becoming a mere formality.

A deal has now been officially signed off.

Former West Ham academy product Moncur has completed his free transfer move to Barnsley from Colchester penning a three-year contract with the Reds.

He’s now getting ready to take part in pre-season training with Barnsley looking to get the best out of the midfielder who got an impressive 14-goals in a struggling Colchester side last season so we’ll hope for big things from the 22-year-old.

Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom has told the Official Website he’s ‘absolutely delighted’ this is done with him a ‘fantastic addition’ to the squad.

‘We`ve been tracking George`s progress for some time so I`m absolutely delighted to get this transfer over the line. He`s a huge talent and was a stand-out player for Colchester, so it`s a big signing and a fantastic addition to the squad.’

He went onto add he’s certain he’ll be up to the challenge of playing in the Championship.

‘Having met George in person and spoken with him in depth, it`s clear that he fits the bill in terms of the type of player that we want representing Barnsley Football Club. In addition to his footballing abilities, he`s down to earth, ambitious, hard-working and has the drive and energy to build a successful career in the game. George looks ready for the challenge of the Championship and I`m looking forward to him linking up with the squad for pre-season training later this week.’

Moncur himself has said that he wasn’t ever left in any doubt about coming to Oakwell. As soon as Barnsley showed an interest he wanted to come to the club.

He himself is also sure he’ll be able to play in the Championship.

‘From the minute I heard Barnsley were interested I wanted to come here. I really like the way Paul presented the Club and I think it`s going to be great for me this year playing in the Championship. I know it`s a higher level but if I play how I know I can, then I believe I can make the step up and continue to progress.’

If Moncur can match his 14-goals from last season we’ll be more than happy but not only did he add he’s looking to do that he is also looking to score even more.

‘I like to get myself on the ball, get it popping about and contribute with plenty of goals. I scored 14 goals last season and want to and go higher next season. There have been some quality additions to the squad already, and with the Club heading back to the Championship it`s an exciting time to be here and I can’t wait to get going!’
