Striker Sam Winnall has said that Barnsley have nine cup finals to look forward to as we close out the season looking to secure a Play Off spot and they begin on Friday when we host Scunthorpe United at Oakwell, before then going into Monday’s quick turnaround clash with Port Vale.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own pre game press conference, Winnall said that both were massive games for us in our Play Off hopes but with the win against Fleetwood and the way our season as a whole has gone following the turn in form from bottom spot – everybody is in good spirits.

‘It`s a good fixture for us really, we`re back at home after a good win away. It`s against a good side who are doing pretty well at the moment as well and in with a shout of the play-offs. It`ll be a good chance for us to create a bit of a gap if we can get the win and put on a bit of a show for our home fans.’

With Scunthorpe having one loss in the last eleven, Winnall echoed head coach Paul Heckingbottom’s comments about it being a really tough match, but with our form earlier in the season, added to Scunthorpe’s own struggles – for him it just shows what an unpredictable League One season it has been for everyone.

‘Anything can happen in this league and we`ve seen that over the course of the season. We`re just trying to take it one game at a time and keep our feet on the ground and try to do everything we can to be in the play-offs come May. I think the best thing to do is take the next game as the most important one and this time it`s Scunthorpe. We all know how important every fixture is now. I know we`ve got a cup final at Wembley on the horizon but we`ve also got nine other cup finals, which probably people on the outside don`t realise but us in the dressing room, and we as a club, know that every game till the end of the season is really important for this season to be successful.’

To give us the best chance of success this year, Winnall went on to say that the players would just continue taking it one game at a time as we have done so far, and keep each match in isolation with a focus to win and not get carried away with anything else.

‘We`re treating every game as if it`s a cup final and we have to go out there and win. They`re on quite good form, I know quite a few of the lads and there`s been a new manager come in yesterday. So it will be nice to see some familiar faces but my main concern is getting the win. This league is very unpredictable, one minute you can be flying the next you can be struggling and I think we`ve been an example of that. We just want to keep the run going and the best thing to do is take one game at a time.’

Ending, he said about the group of players in the dressing room.

‘We put pressure on ourselves because we expect the best. Within the four walls of the dressing room we put pressure on to go out and get a win. We have such a hungry and ambitious squad and it`s testament to them and the character they`ve got.’
