Officials Snatch Game From Barnsley Again

In a game that couldn’t quite get going, the Championship’s newest referee made a name for himself by awarding Hull City a penalty in the 66th minute.

Peter Quinn, who was refereeing in League Two until today handed the game to Hull City on a plate by awarding them a spot kick and sending off Barnsley’s Stephen Foster.

Barnsley and Hull City had barely exchanged any shots after an hour of play but the game burst into life in a fashion when Quinn’s blunder rocked the equilibrium.

Just as the penalty awarded to Forest on New Years Day had done, another refereeing error cost the Reds points in the league.

It was a similar story at Upton Park last week in the F.A. Cup when Barnsley had two stonewall penalties denied by the officials.

Ahead of the game, Mark Robins had told Barnsley’s official site that the Reds get ‘one a week’ against them, meaning incorrectly given, game changing decisions and he was proved correct as for the third week running, Barnsley got far less reward than they deserved for their efforts.

Jason Shackell was also sent off for lashing out on 90 minutes at a Hull City player, leaving the Reds completely without their central defenders.

It is almost enough to make one give up on the game altogether, when an expensive day out is absolutely ruined by one man, who comes in for no retribution at all.
