Barnsley striker Chris O`Grady has joined Championship side Brighton for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £500,000.

O`Grady has penned a three year deal with the Seagulls.

O`Grady was voted player of the year for the reds last season and netted 21 times in 59 appearances after joining in January 2013, initially on loan.

The transfer fee, whilst it represents a profit on what Barnsley paid, is substantially lower than I would expect for a striker who bagged 15 goals in a relegated team.

I would like to wish O`Grady every success at Brighton; he was certainly a grafter during his time at Oakwell.

Again however, I do think it is poor business by the reds and despite needing his wages off the books, I think they could and should have held out for at least another £250k, especially when you look at some of the recent transfer fees involving Championship strikers.
