Barnsley’s search for a manager looks set to go on for even longer as they were rebuffed by Leyton Orient this evening, in their attempts to snatch away Russell Slade.

The Reds held talks with Keith Hill earlier this week but the Rochdale boss turned down the opportunity to move to the Championship club.

Next on the shortlist for Barnsley was Orient’s Russell Slade, but chairman Barry Hearn told the Reds that Slade is going nowhere: ‘Russ is vitally important to this club and after the season we have had, we shook hands on a new contract for him,’ he told the club’s official site.

Hearn continued: ‘We want Russ at the helm so our response to Barnsley was that they would need to look elsewhere for their next manager.’

So, Barnsley may have to fish a little lower if they’re going to attract a new manager to the club any time soon. Although I hear Carlo Ancelotti is looking for work now…
