Alex Mowatt has left Barnsley to join Oxford on loan.

The former Leeds midfielder, who was signed on a two and a half year deal in January, has linked up with his former boss at Elland Road, Pep Clotet, on a season-long deal.

Mowatt hasn’t found a regular place in Paul Heckingbottom’s first team easy to come across, making 11 appearances, the boss’ further additions this summer wouldn’t have helped, it was decided his career would better benefit from this spell at Oxford under a familiar boss.

Clotet will hope to get the best out of Mowatt, 22, during his spell at the Kassam Stadium, should this prove to be the case the Yorkshire-born midfielder could yet have a successful long-term future at Oakwell.
