Ben Pearson’s loan with Barnsley was always likely to be for this season and this season alone, certainly if we weren’t able to step up into the Championship as is now almost virtually impossible.

We’ve had a positive second half to the season though and we have something to build on next season with our Man United loanee saying an interview with the Official Man United Website that he’s really enjoyed his time with the club and feels this experience will stand him in good stead for the future.

He did admit to ‘underachieving’ when he first arrived though, then again he wouldn’t be alone would he as points this season!

‘I’m loving it. I’ve extended the loan twice and all the lads have been great. I’ve been playing every game and playing well, kicking on, which is good experience.

‘There is such a difference and I think it’s the next step in my career. I needed to do it. I saw a lot of Under-21 action in the last 18 months or so and this was the next step. There is a massive fanbase here and what a club to come to.

‘It was underachieving when I first came but we’ve kicked on since then.’

The 20-year-old had nothing but praise for the club with him welcomed ‘since the first day’, as you would expect anyway, with the chance of managers making little difference to him as he enjoyed his time under Danny Wilson but knew that Lee Johnson rated him anyway, as he tried to take him to Oldham previously!

Pearson’s next objective is to step up again, he went onto say that would like to get into the Man United first-team squad next season but if that isn’t going to happen then he would like to join a Championship club on loan for further experience. He would have wanted that with us but it wasn’t to be, so whatever the future does hold he says he wants to ‘play my football and enjoy myself.’

I’m sure that we’ll all wish him well and would hope that our paths can cross again down the line!
