A brief statement was issued on the Official Website this morning confirming that Mike Phenix has been allowed to go out on loan.

Phenix, who needs first-team football having made only two appearance since his arrival in 2014 and loaned to Macclesfield previously, has been allowed to join Southport on loan until January.

Head Coach Lee Johnson said.

‘This is the ideal opportunity for Mike to get some game-time under his belt.

‘I’m sure he’ll do well there and we’ll be tracking his progress.’

At 26 you definitely can’t say, not that he’s past it by any means, that Phenix is a ‘youngster’ anymore is he with this first-team football definitely needed at this stage of his career and as things stand you tend to think he’ll do well to force himself into Johnson’s plans with the Reds wouldn’t you?

Should this loan be successful with the Conference side though, he’s due to return on 3rd January, you never know!
