Thoughts of the man in the Oakwell hot seat David Flitcroft, as the Reds run continues.Flicker gave this interview to the Barnsley Player.

David Another Victory your thoughts on today’s performance? ‘Its a reflection of the management team. Myself, Micky Mellon, Martin Scott. Everyone who is around the group is asking for the same thing Desire, commitment, resolve, adaptability, flexibility. This is what the team has shown today incredible commitment for the whole 97 Minutes. I was as proud today as I have been from day one. That was a magnanimous effort from a group of players who don`t like defeat. I am proud as punch to be fair’.

Did you fear second half that it could be the end of the unbeaten run?? ‘Yeh at one point I was thinking if we get out with a draw then I would be delighted. We controlled the first half and the fact Tony Mowbray went with one up front shows great respect for Barnsley Football Club. The subs made the difference again Chris O’Grady carried us forward’.

I know you will say its a team performance but 3 in 3 from Jason Scotland is a great Start?? ‘Yeh but I will not go on about that, its about the group, the people in the office who worked on deadline day to bring in Rory Delap, Jason Scotland. Its about the fans we cant keep talking about people who get the goals. The work rate of Marlon Harewood, Jim O’Brien and Daggers. proud of everyone one of the staff and players. The fans because they are on this journey with us they want to be a part of it, the players have given them everything today. I say to the team lets make every day a masterpiece, when your head hits the pillow make sure you have done everything. That is exactly what the players have done today’.

Incredible change in fortune as a club, from where we were just before Christmas?? ‘This team were not playing badly, I will speak about that to anyone. Under Keith Hill this Club were playing well and he has put together a fantastic group of players. The fights have stopped and I have put a lot of fires out throughout, I have had to do because I want a cohesive club, I want everyone on the same page. We are playing more forceful and asking teams to defend more. Keith Hill has recruited some incredible players who are now playing to their optimum’.

Does a change to the cup next Saturday help or hinder?? ‘Help definitely, Great week planned, players staying over for a night. We will watch MK Dons as a group at Doncaster before travelling down on Friday. Them players want to win at MK Dons believe me, the spirit in that dressing room they can’t wait to get to MK Dons. What happens when you’re on a run like this, the games are the special part of the week. The players a looking forward to getting on that coach on Friday’.

Every time I hear Flicker I am more and more impressed, can’t wait to hear what he has to say tomorrow night. Its good what he is doing through the whole club, Micky and Martin are playing a great part and it was good to hear Flicker reference them.
The part where he went into Keith Hill, I know your mates but I would steer clear of bringing Keith into conversations……..

fair play to him, he says it the Barnsley way! you get what you see.you have seen our team play more than i, but my family and friends see them week in week out. i am informed that we have been passing teams to death up to xmas, but the ball wont go in the net!! at xmas i took in the home games, and saw us on tv against the owls. if we were still playing we wouldnt have scored!!!b`ham and blackburn were poor but after the first 25mins, when we had battered them, but some how didnt score, we could see, i gues the players knew what would happen next, and yes they score.we have quality in our team, and mr Hill has played a massive part in that, like it or not!!.Now flicker has them realising how good they are, plus abit of tweaking with a proven angry, point to prove, striker or 2.All you can ask is that they give there all, if we get beat by a better team then so be it, but that wont happen every week!!!

Agreed, but the brand of football is great. The players are playing ever game like its a cup final, well maybe they are!
I feel Mellon and Scott deserve thanks they along with flicker are putting in the hours with the players on the training field.

yes, fair comment, obviously the new coaches have made a massive contribution.there is an end result now, and as you say, its like a cup final every game, its as though they are told, we must win at all costs.long may it continue, the fans will appreciate our team giving 100%!!!

The team are going into each game now not wanting to lose (at any cost), so they are scrapping for every ball… that attitude will help in the fight to stay up! and we are closing in on a lot of teams above, but all the bottom teams are pulling out results, so it’s vital that we can keep the good run going, it’s going to be a very tight finish at the bottom this season, any one of 12 or so teams can be dragged into the relegation fight…just hope we are safe well before the last weekend..?

Flicker was full of praise for Mellon and Scott last night and their roles helping him with the team. All of the bottom clubs seem to have picked up some form but if we carry on like this we don’t need to worry about anyone else.
