Here we rate the reds players following our 2 – 0 defeat to Brighton.

Davies 6
Jones 5
Roberts 6
MacDonald 6
Yiadom 6
Watkins 5
JAMES 7
Moncur 5
Kent 5
Bradshaw 5
Armstrong 6

James was the standout player for the reds in midfield. Although we did play well in the first half the ratings reflect how well Brighton played rather than how poor the reds were second half.

The front two gave the reds back line a lot of problems and that was because of their quality rather than us being poor. Jones struggled with the pace of Murphy out wide.

In midfield Moncur played too safe for me and I would have liked him to have had more of impact by trying to go forward more and pass forward more instead of just backwards and sideways but it is a slightly different role to what he is used to.

The wingers again had little impact on the game. Kent in particular is frustrating as he has pace and ability but let`s himself down with his final ball or decision making. Watkins will put a shift in but isn`t really a winger in my opinion. Hammill`s little cameo when he came on showed both the reasons why he is currently on the bench and why he should be pushing for a start.

Up front Bradshaw didn`t really have a kick and Armstrong did as well as he could in the circumstances. I don`t think the two can play with each other and they both need a big hold up man at the side of them. Unfortunately we don`t have one as Paul Heckingbottom like myself doesn`t think that Watkins can do that job.
