Player of the Year Jason Shackell was the subject of a £700,000 bid from Derby County this week.

The central defender, who joined Barnsley last summer from Wolves, picked up the fans Player of the Year award in his debut season for some outstanding performances but clubs are circling at the moment, looking to poach him.

Barnsley, who are still without a manager, rejected the bid straight away, telling The Star that ‘We have had an approach from Derby County to sign Jason Shackell, but at this moment in time we`ve refused it because we haven`t got a manager. We`re working very hard at the moment to appoint a new manager, so that`s our main focus at this time.”

Meanwhile, Hull City are also rumoured to have lodged a bid for Shackell but Don Rowing dismissed that as speculation.

Barnsley would do well to keep hold of Shackell, who has been almost ever present this season but with a new manager to be appointed soon, there’s a strong likelihood of more departures this summer.
