Reds suffer opening day defeat

Barnsley came away from Loftus Road with no points after a narrow 2-1 defeat

The Red`s £1.2m man,Iain Hume partnered Jon Macken up front. While Mounir El Haimour and Darren Moore also made their Barnsley debuts in the starting eleven. Blackburn loanee Maceo Rigters started on the bench.

The Reds got off to a dream start on five minutes as Brian Howard slipped a ball through for Iain Hume to tuck past Radek Cerny.

The game was spun on it`s head on 29 minutes as Fitz Hall poked home a rebounded free-kick.

Two minutes later, Fitz Hall was either lucky or spectacular to volley an outstadning strike into the top corner with Steele nowhere near.

The two quick goals had kncoked the wind out of the Reds who had really taken the game to their opponents in the opening twenty-five minutes.

Fitz Hall had a tremendous opportunity to record his first career hat-trick from the penalty spot after Darren Moore hacked down Dexter Blackstock in the box.

Luke Steele did well to parry away Fitz Hall`s spot kick to keep the Red`s hopes of an equaliser well and truly alive with over half an hour remaining.

Just as the Reds should have been pushing for an equaliser, Marciano Van Homoet was dismissed for a ridiculous two-footed lunge on Parejo with seven minutes remaining.

So things could have been a lot worse for Simon Davey`s men with QPR`s billions breaking the piggy bank.

QPR:

Cerny, Ramage, Hall, Gorkss, Delaney, Agyemang (Parejo), Mahon, Leigertwood, Ledesma (Alberti), Cook, Blackstock.

Subs not used: Camp, Connolly, Balanta.

Barnsley:

Steele, Foster, Moore, Souza, Van Homoet, Devaney, Howard, El Haimour (Rigters), Hassell (Leon), Macken (Odejayi), Hume.

Subs not used: Mostto, Kozluk.

A narrow defeat away from home isn`t a result to be ashamed of, especially with two of the Barnsley stars racing back to fitness from horrific knee injuries.

Let`s just hope that confidence hasn`t been rocked too much, and things will be put right at Gresty Road next Tuesday as the Reds face Crewe Alexandra in the League Cup.
