Former Club captain Paul Reid and midfielder Dwayne Mattis have both left Oakwell after having their contracts terminated by mutual consent.

Reid fell down the pecking order at Oakwell last season after the arrival of Dennis Souza, Lewin Nyatanga and Stephen Foster.

It seems as though Reid will join hometown club, League One outfit Carlisle United.

A signing by former manager Paul Hart, Reid captained the Reds to play-off glory under Andy Ritchie back in 2006. His last game was away at Colchester where he was sent off during the 2-2 draw.

Paul turned out for the Tykes 128 times, netting seven goals. Perhaps his most memorable goal for Barnsley was a header away at Huddersfield Town in Barnsley`s semi-final second leg play off win in 2006.

Thanks for your services, Paul and good luck with your future.

As for Dwayne Mattis, the less said about him the better.

Mattis cost the Reds £75,000 from League 2 side Bury and only made a mere five appearances – costing the Reds £15,000 per game, not to mention his wage bill.
