Manager Lee Johnson has today added Marc Roberts to the playing squad ahead of the 2015-16 season.

The 24 year old defender joined us from Halifax Town and has now put pen to paper on the three year contract.

Speaking to the Official Site after penning his deal, he explained that he was now delighted to have signed for his hometown club as it’s something he’d always wanted to do.

‘I’m happy to get it sorted and I can’t wait to get going. I’ve always wanted to sign for my hometown club, and now it’s finally here – I can’t wait. I’ve got a lot of friends who are Barnsley fans so I’ve always looked out for their results.’

In the past two years with Halifax the player became a key part of their squad, becoming skipper, making 93 appearances for the side and did attract a fair bit of attention from Championship clubs along the way.

‘The gaffer here is great and I’m looking forward to working for him. I had a conversation with him and it tipped it in Barnsley’s favour. I’m an old-fashioned defender. I’m strong in the air and won’t lose many headers. I’m not bad on the floor but I’m looking to improve.’
