After a meeting with Mark Robins on Wednesday night, the directors of Barnsley Football Club will meet again with club owner Patrick Cryne to iron out any creases in a deal that could see local rivals Rotherham United’s manager join Barnsley, replacing Simon Davey as first team coach.

Aidy Boothroyd was leading the betting odds on Sunday as the 2/1 favourite, with Mark Robins on 10/1, but after an interview given by Oakwell director Barry Taylor to BBC Radio Sheffield, in which Taylor outlines the criteria and characteristics of the manager they were looking for, Robins shot to 6/4 favourite, with Aidy Boothroyd joining League 1 Colchester United.

Taylor said that the club were after a young manager with football league experience who was currently in work, ruling out the majority of the early contenders and focusing the bookies attentions on Mark Robins.

Robins met with the Oakwell executives on Wednesday and has been placed on gardening leave by Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart until the matter is concluded.

Barnsley director Don Rowing however, has stated that he expects Mark Robins to be in charge of Rotherham United on Saturday for their home match against Chesterfield United. When asked if Robins would be in charge of the Millers the following Saturday, Rowing refused to comment.

Lucky I put a fiver on when he was 10/1 then!
