According to sources both Newcastle and Middlesbrough are preparing to offer deals to Jacob Butterfield when his contract runs out in the summer.

Other Premier League clubs and Celtic are also believed to be interested but it is believed that it is the north east duo that are willing to pay the compensation required despite the reds star being injured for the rest of the season.

Only last week reds boss Keith Hill virtually conceded that Butterfield would be leaving in the summer.

Butterfield himself said staying at Barnsley was still an option but it does seem that will only happen if the right offer doesn`t come in.
