Sam Morsy joined Barnsley on deadline day from Wigan Athletic on loan deal until the end of the season.

The Egyptian midfielder was attracting interest from a number of Championship and League One clubs but saw Barnsley as the best place to progress his career.

Morsy is still only 24 but has already played over 150 league matches.

He came to the attention of many clubs whilst at Chesterfield where he made 99 appearances and notched seven goals.

Wigan snapped him up in January of this year and he was an instrumental figure in helping them to promotion to the Championship.

However, this season he has struggled to hold down a place in the Wigan first team despite their indifferent start to the season.

His time at Oakwell could be similar. He will have to dislodge one of Hourihane or Scowen to get a starting place which I can`t see happening any time soon.

Ideally players go out on loan to play first team football but I think it will be a case of Morsy having to wait for an opportunity.

We needed another midfielder but at the moment he will only be back up in case of injury or suspension and could be used from the bench in games when Hecky wants to change to three in the middle of midfield.

His signing along with several others made at deadline now gives the reds some real competition for places which will hopefully help us to continue our good start to the season.
