Josh Scowen was also invited along to a pre game press conference ahead of the Southend United trip this weekend, and he focused on making it back to back victories this weekend following our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory over Bradford in midweek that brought an end to our back to back defeats against Crewe and Doncaster.

Speaking to the Official Site the box to box midfielder discussed the season so far, and his hopes for improvement in the remainder of the campaign.

The 22 year old explained.

‘The gaffer wants me to lead, so I try to offer what experience I have. It`s up to the lads whether they take it on, but I try to do what I can. You learn by playing the game, so the more we play the quicker we`ll get there.’

With him missing the re-arranged JPT tie with a suspension, Scowen was obviously hoping to make a return to the starting line up for this weekend’s game.

‘I don`t like it when the team’s playing and I`m not out there. It`s one of those things in my game though. Every season I get suspended but I`m not planning to change the way I play so I will tend to pick up bookings, but I am trying to limit them.’

As for the weekend’s opponents more directly he went on to say.

‘When I`ve played against them in the past they`ve been very direct. They tend to hit the front early and play off the second ball, so if we can deal with that and impose our game on them, we will win. The league is still tight and a few wins would take us right up there, so if we keep playing like we have we will be there.’
