Barnsley continued their excellent home form today with a win over promotion favourites Middlesbrough.

In beating Gordon Strachan’s outfit, Barnsley also picked up their second clean sheet at home this season, meaning they are yet to concede in the league at Oakwell so far.

Despite the presence of some real attacking threats on paper, Barnsley keeper Luke Steele was given a relatively easy ride today. However, the Reds did have to rely on him on the odd occasion as testified to by Mark Robins in his post match interview.

He told the club’s official site: ‘Luke Steele has come in for some criticism for his performance last week but I thought he was excellent today and made some good saves for us.’

Steele was called upon by the Reds on 35 minutes to deny Boyd’s smart lob that would have levelled proceedings after Jason Shackell’s opener. It was Boro’s best chance in a poor display for a promotion favourite.
