Sky Bet Championship – Adam Armstrong – BARNSLEY v Preston North End

Barnsley striker Adam Armstrong is the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month winner for September, receiving 44% of the public vote.

This was a superb goal from Armstrong on his Barnsley debut.

A fantastically improvised piece of skill left Preston defender Alex Baptiste for dead, before Armstrong finished with a curling effort into the far corner.

Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “You couldn`t see a better debut goal anywhere in the world than Adam Armstrong`s for Barnsley.

“It was a goal borne from the confidence he`s taken from his superb goal-scoring loan spell at Coventry City, where he showed what an instinctive finisher he is.

“Alex Baptiste is no slouch, but the pace that Armstrong showed was really impressive.

“The skill involved is out of this world and had it been Messi or Ronaldo, this goal would be global already!

“If he continues in this vein, it won`t be long before Rafa Benitez demands his return to Newcastle!“

Armstrong said: “I`m delighted to win the award! It happened on my debut as well which makes it even more special and it`s definitely up there with one of my best goals. Conor Hourihane picked the ball up and I just thought I`ve got to make a run because we`re on the front foot and looking to grab the winner. I managed to chase it down, turn the defender and put it in. I really enjoyed celebrating that one right in front of our travelling fans!”

“I`m loving it here at Barnsley. Coming in on loan and adapting to a new environment has been massive for my development. All of the lads are great, we`ve had a strong start to the season and it`s a really positive place to be at the moment. We`ll keep working hard everyday to keep the wins coming and I feel we can go a long way this season.”

“To win the award represents a big moment in my career so far – so thanks to all the fans who voted for my goal. It means a lot and hopefully it’s one of many more to come this season!”

Armstrong beat off competition from Blackburn`s Danny Graham and QPR`s Tjaronn Chery.
