Barnsley have confirmed that Brek Shea has returned to Stoke City after having his loan spell at Oakwell cut short.

It is fair to say that the performances of Shea since his arrival at the club have been poor at best and the final straw seems to have been the incident at the end of the Huddersfield match.

Shea had apologised for his actions but it seems that Barnsley boss Danny Wilson is not happy with the attitude of Shea and his inability to perform to the standards that Wilson knows that he is capable of.

I think it is a good decision to send him back and I base that on footballing decisions alone. With the competition that we have out wide I personally wouldn`t even have Shea on the bench.

Wilson stuck by him despite admitting he had underperformed. He obviously saw something in him that Shea wasn`t able to reproduce on a match day and expected that his performances would improve which they didn`t.

Many fans will wonder why Shea has been sent back and Dawson started the following game. Although both players were involved in incidents at the end of the match I do think Wilson has made the right call in both cases.

Dawson`s apology was immediate and seemed genuine where as you get the impression that Shea`s was forced.

Dawson is also fully committed to the cause and will give everything he has when he pulls on a red shirt. As for Shea, you just got the impression that he didn`t really have the stomach for a relegation battle and his heart was never really in it during his short period with the reds.

I have nothing against Shea however and would like to wish him all the best in his footballing career but I am pleased that his career will not continue with Barnsley.
