Barnsley have signed Sheffield Wednesday ‘keeper Joe Wildsmith on loan, a move that was confirmed on the Official Website this afternoon.

The 20-year-old has joined us on loan for an initial one-month spell and will go straight into the squad for the game against League 1 leaders Bristol City on Saturday.

This move allowed him to work with our coach Mark Crossley again, who has worked with him before, with it a move that he’s exited by and looks forward to.

‘I’m excited to get started.

‘It’s an ideal opportunity for me, living close by, and I’m looking forward to working with Mark Crossley again and help push the lads on.’

I’m not sure what his future will be with parent club Sheffield Wednesday but his current deal, if he hasn’t signed a new one since his first pro deal back in November 2013, expires in the summer so he’s also playing for his future, be that at Oakwell, back at Hillsborough or elsewhere perhaps?

Wildsmith shared more of thoughts in this Audio interview below….

You can hear more like this on AudioBoom.

With Lee Johnson worried about Adam Davies’ ‘slight abductor tear’ getting worse he didn’t want to risk us being left short, what with Ross Turnbull’s back injury keeping him out for the remainder of the season and Christian Dibble currently away with Wales on international duty.
