Dennis Souza has been told by Barnsley Football Club that he must find a new club when his contract runs out at Oakwell at the end of June.

The Brazilian centre back signed a two year contract in the summer of 2007 to join the Reds from Charleroi. He quickly established himself as a fans favourite and a regular in the side in the 2007/08 season, partnering loanee Lewin Nyatanga in defence. He was in the side that narrowly missed out on a place in the 2008 F.A. Cup final with a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City at Wembley.

However after some good displays from veteran Darren Moore and captain Stephen Foster in 2009, Souza found his place in jeopardy and was forced on to the bench. He refused to take his place on the bench for the match at home to Crystal Palace – causing rumours of a rift between him and club manager Simon Davey.

His final appearance came against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a one all draw at Oakwell.

“Big Souz” made a total of eighty-seven appearance for the Reds, scoring two goals – both against Bristol City at Oakwell and Ashton Gate.
