It`s fair to say that the reds recent run of results is worrying to say the least. We Barnsley fans dared to dream the dream with a fantastic start to the season but we have now come back down to earth with a massive bump.

Most fans that I speak to are constantly debating the selection of the strikers and if the strikers selected don`t score then he`s picked the wrong ones and that`s why we haven`t won.

I disagree with this completely. At the moment it is a thankless task for anyone picked up top for the reds as our service to the strikers is so poor at the moment. It doesn`t matter who is picked up front, we simply aren`t creating chances for them. They are feeding off scraps and if they don`t create their own chances then they are pretty much screwed.

Last season our wingers were magnificent and scored and created many goals for our strikers. This season they have been awful and that is our main problem at the moment.

If our wingers aren`t creating chances for our strikers then we have big problems. Both wingers need dropping for me but that moment with the injuries we have it is hard to see where the replacements are unless we change our formation.

Our central midfield should also be doing more in terms of creating chances, it`s not just down to our wingers, but the all round game of whoever has been playing in the middle has been good whereas the general play of Hammill and Kent has been poor.

From arriving at the club Hourihane has improved the defensive side of his game immensely. However I still feel that his best attributes are in the final third of the field where he can create for others and pop up with a few goals himself.

I`d like to see him get forward a bit more and try to do this. Lately he seems to spend most of the game stood on the centre halves toes even when we are in possession and attacking. A more box to box role for him could be the key for us to return to our free scoring form of early season.

Just for the record I do think that we should start with Winnall and Watkins up top as I feel Armstrong and Bradshaw only seem to have an impact from the bench.

However, whichever combination the manager selects is really irrelevant with how few chances we have created lately. It is the midfield area that is the problem not the strikers.
