If FLIC Sport are right, which they say follows on from ‘a national newspaper’ story earlier today, then Lee Johnson could be bringing Michael Smith to Barnsley?

The Reds’ search for the striker Johnson wanted could end with Barnsley’s, former Charlton man who almost joined Sheffield United this summer, Smith coming to Oakwell!

An offer of £400,000 could reportedly be going in for the 18-goal striker from last season, who has 26-goals in his 67-matches since signing for the Robins from Charlton for a fee of around £100,000 in January 2014.

Had it not be for the fact the Blades sacked Nigel Clough the 23-year-old might have already moved to Bramall Lane, this move was close before he got the boot, but as it is the loss of our Yorkshire rivals could be our gain if these reports are accurate?

Could Smith, a proven goalscorer in the Football League, be the final piece of the Tykes’ puzzle ahead of the new season….
