Talk of a possible takeover is rife around Oakwell today.

Barnsley have stated that the sale of the club is ‘not imminent` but there is definitely some substance to the story that has been reported in the Barnsley Chronicle.

Former Swindon Town owner Jed McCrory is believed to be in talks with owner Patrick Cryne regarding buying the club for £5m.

Cryne has always stated that he would be willing to sell his stake in the club to someone who he believes could take the club forward.

McCrory was part of a group that bought 99% of the shareholding in Swindon in February 2013. He reluctantly resigned from Swindon in December 2013.

McCrory is said to be a big fan of Danny Wilson and if a deal can be done in the next few days then Wilson will have funds to spend before the transfer window shuts.

No one knows exactly what is going on regarding possible takeover talks but one thing we do know is that Cryne will only sell the club to the right person. To someone who can put more money in than he can and have the chance to take the club forward.

It will be interesting to see how this story develops over the next week or so.
