Barnsley showed just the response that the fans were looking for in beating Nottingham Forest by one goal to nil at Oakwell on Saturday.

Fans were unhappy with the way the team seemed to lay down and die in losing 5 – 0 to Huddersfield the previous week.

The Oakwell faithful were fearful that the players had already surrendered in their task to avoid the drop after showing no fight, battle and pride in the display at Huddersfield.

A 5 – 0 defeat was bad enough but it was the manor of the display that had fans worried. Two home games followed but most fans expected a return of no points from the two fixtures.

The players certainly showed that they still have the fight and desire for this battle with the display against Nottingham Forest.

Dale Jennings scored a terrific goal and Barnsley were good value for their battling 1 – 0 victory in front of an Oakwell crowd that really got behind the team. It is a rarity to say that about the Oakwell crowd these days.

The fans were fantastic, particularly in the last ten minutes as Forest piled on the pressure. It has been a long time since the fans have created an atmosphere like that and fully got behind the team and it was great to see.

More of the same is needed against Leicester if we are to compete with the runaway league leaders. Anything we get from this game is a bonus but we must have the belief that we can beat them on our home patch.

The players responded well against Forest and so did the fans. The management did also and I must commend Wilson for his team selection and the way he has dealt with the incidents following the Huddersfield match.

It was the right call to bring in Dawson and Woods and to also go with one up top despite being the home team.

I thought Mellis had a poor game but I still think prior to the match then the eleven that he picked was 100 per cent the right call and I haven`t thought that many times during the season.

I`m rarely sure about the substitutions that are made but we held on for the three points and I`m fairly certain that Wilson substitutions are a lot better than 95% of the fans I speak to give him credit for.

I also think he made the correct decisions in starting Dawson and sending Shea back to Stoke.

Although both were involved with the same incident, I do feel it was correct to deal with the individual player rather than incident.

Whatever the outcome against Leicester, I do believe that most of the players have the fight in them, whether that is enough remains to be seen.

I do hope the crowd can continue where they left off on Saturday and not turn on the team if Leicester do prove to be too much for us. After all they are for most teams in the division.

Stranger things have happened in football than Barnsley beating Leicester so hopefully we can turn the form table upside down.

The players will surely be up for it and hopefully so will the crowd. Let`s see Oakwell in good voice tonight and push the lads over the line to another three points and hopefully out of that bottom three.
