Port Vale are said to be the latest in a line of Clubs enquiring about the availability of Barnsley midfielder Simon Heslop.

The 21-year-old spent most of last season on loan at Halifax, helping the Shaymen avoid relegation from the Blue Square Premier. Heslop enjoyed a successful spell with the West Yorkshire Club before they were eventually demoted due to financial problems.

The Grimsby Town boss, Alan Buckley, told of the competition he is up against to lure Simon to Cleethorpes:

He told the Grimsby Telegraph: ‘I have spoken to Simon (Davey) about him. He’s gone away with Rochdale but I’ve told Barnsley to keep me in the loop about his future.

‘Simon told me that Port Vale are also interested so we’ll wait and see what happens when he’s back.’

Born in York, Simon has had other successful spells on loan at Northwich Victoria, Kidderminster Harriers and Tamworth.
