On loan Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney has been speaking about his move to Oakwell, following his debut for the club in the York City Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash.

Having come to the club on a 28 day loan deal on Monday, he told the Official Site that he hoped to have a real impact for us, but he felt he did well alongside Simeon Jackson in midweek.

‘The first match was always going to be hard but I thought I linked well with Simeon but I`m sure the goals will come. There is a great bunch of players here, everybody is friendly and clicks because we`re a young group but we all have fire in our belly.’

Having been brought in to address the dip in league form, Toney went on to say that he’s confident he can have the desired effect for manager Lee Johnson and having done his homework on the club he feels we are a good side that have just got stuck in a rut.

‘It is going to be hard to change the losing mentality but hopefully we`ll get on a run soon and change that. I wouldn`t say that the side have underperformed. They`re a good side and I don`t know how they haven`t been getting the results. Hopefully I can add goals to the side. I didn`t manage to get on the score sheet on Tuesday but hopefully I will on Saturday if I`m playing. I thought coming here was the best option for me. I`m happy to be here and hopefully become a big signing for the club and if it all goes well, I`ll be looking to extend that.’

With a productive and successful spell with Northampton behind him, he ended his interview by adding.

‘I`m sure there will be similarities but I want to play football and hopefully the results will come our way. Hopefully my goals can help turn the side`s bad run around and we can kick on against Port Vale on Saturday and get a win.’
