The transfer window closed with the Official Website confirming the permanent signing of loanee Nick Townsend at Barnsley.

Having been signed on loan initially ahead of the two-one win over Scunthorpe in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night, with it the same opposition he had made his Barnsley debut against in the League Cup win last month too, the ‘keeper signed a permanent three-year deal.

On his permanent arrival Lee Johnson said.

‘I’m delighted to get the deal done.

‘Since day one I’ve really enjoyed training and everything about being here. All the lads made me feel welcome and it’s just the right idea to join permanently.

‘There’s great competition between me and Adam and we’ll be fighting it out which will make both of us better.’

And to think Johnson had previously dismissed the original talks the Reds would bring in the 20-year-old on anything other than a loan!

We also had the Official Website confirming the arrival of another striker with Michael Smith brought in on Tuesday as well.

Swindon striker Smith, followed up the deadline day signing of Birmingham ‘keeper Townsend, by agreeing a deal to sign for Barnsley on a loan with an agreement to buy in January.

The Reds had been linked to 23-year-old Smith for a while, this seemed to go quiet however this was a deal that we got over the line on Tuesday with a loan deal signed to take him through until 4th January, with this deal becoming a permanent one when this ends and the January transfer window reopens as per the agreement in place with League 1 rivals Swindon.

Johnson added.

‘I’m really pleased to get this one over the line. Michael will not only bring a great presence to our forward line but he also adds goals, too.

‘He has all the attributes to complement what we already have here. I have tracked Michael through the window and I am pleased to have secured his services on loan initially. I’m looking forward to working with him.’

A productive deadline day wasn’t it!
