Barnsley were involved in a busy transfer deadline day with a few players arriving, some leaving and some loans extended but one last move into the transfer market from Lee Johnson saw him bring in non-league striker Shaun Tuton.

Tuton, who had been attracting the attentions of several Football League clubs with his goals for Halifax, was signed on a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds having the option of another year.

At 24 clearly the striker isn’t a youngster as such is he, so he’s been brought in to play a part in the immediate future with him telling the Official Website he can’t wait for his chance, which he’s keen to take.

‘I’m over the moon, obviously. I’ve been stepping up over the past couple years from Evo-Stik to the Conference, within five months to get a move to a big, League One Club is great. When I first heard, I was sat waiting and heard a few rumours, when my agent said it was finalised I couldn’t wait to get over and sign.’

The Head Coach has certainly sprung a surprise here with this one, seemingly, coming out of nowhere.

It’ll be interesting to see what he can do, it’s quite a step up but they say goalscorers can, and usually do, score at any level if you give them chances and Barnsley have certainly got players to provide him with these as long as Johnson uses him, which he will or why would he have signed him!
