Barnsley have tonight signed two players for the Under 21s and let George Maris out on loan.

Beginning with 20 year old Harris, he comes in on an 18 month deal after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the midfielder’s service.

Speaking to the Official Site following his arrival, Harris explained.

‘I’m happy to finally sign and I’m looking ahead to my new career. I have a few roots here so it’s nice to be up north and in South Yorkshire. I’m a box-to-box midfielder and want to help create and score goals. I just can’t wait to get on the training field and show the coaching staff what I’m about.’

Bobby Hassell, Head of Academy Recruitment said of the signing.

‘Charlie is another good, young player to add to our Under 21s group. We really like what we’ve seen of him so far and he’ll add strength to our development group. Our core of younger players is getting stronger and stronger, and with Charlie he adds great energy to our underbelly.’

The second youth signing made was 19 year old midfielder Josh Kay who also signs an 18 month deal.

He comes in from AFC Fylde having come through their youth ranks.

‘I’m delighted to join such a big club like Barnsley and can’t wait to get going. I know Barnsley give opportunities to younger players and I’ll aim to grab my chance when it comes along. I’d like to thank everyone connected with AFC Fylde for helping me to where I am today. This is a very exciting new chapter in my career and I’m determined to work really hard to make it a success.’

Hassell added about him.

‘Josh came to the club’s attention a while ago. We’ve monitored his progress and liked what we saw. We invited him for a trial where he impressed to the point of us wanting to sign him. He’ll be a useful member of our development squad and we’re looking for him to push on.’

Leaving us though was fellow youngster Maris, and he has headed out to Lincoln City on a loan spell until the end of the season.

The 19 year old will be at Sincil Bank until April 30 when the National League season finishes.
