Tykes lost in the Forest

Barnsley threw everything at under-pressure boss, Colin Calderwood’s men but came away from Nottinghamshire with nothing to show.

There was a place on the bench for loanee Jamie Cureton as Anderson de Silva returned from his three-match ban to partner Hugo Colace in the middle of the park.

A quiet start from both sides saw the Reds have the first opportunity as Jamal Campbell-Ryce tested the gloves of Camp with a 25-yard drive.

The referee appeared to set out a card stall as he booked Dennis Souza for bumping into Paul Anderson on nine minutes.

After a couple of half chances the Reds should have been in fron on 21 minutes. Macken’s head met Campbell-Ryce’s delightful cross but the former Derby man nodded just wide from eight yeards.

The host’s first real threat on goal came via a Robert Earnshaw volley 24 minutes in.

Odejayi almost got in on goal but was denied by a great last-ditch challenge from Wes Morgan.

It was Forest who took the lead thanks to a simple header from Joe Garner on 36 minutes. It was a great cross from Tyson whose pinpoint cross found Garner unmarked six-yards out.

The second half saw a rejuvinated Forest come at the Reds and a McGugan effort zipped off the top of Muller’s bar.

Anderson de Silva brought another top draw save from Camp just before the hour mark. The Brazilan had time to chest and volley an effort towards the top corner but for Camp’s agile stop.

As the Reds drove forward they were nearly caught on the counter and Muller was forced into a splendid save, tipping over Lynch’s 25-yard strike.

Stoppage time was quickly upon Barnsley but Stephen Foster nearly equalised but his free header met the bar.

There was one last chance for the Reds in the four minutes of stoppage time. Even Heinz Muller sprinted up for a free-kick. Anderson De Silva fired in the set-piece at Camp who made a world class save after the ball even took a deflection on its way in.
