Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with a win at Oakwell against Burton on Saturday.

It’s only the second game of the season but it’ll be a three-points that Reds boss Johnson would have been keen to get on the board, which was the case for Barnsley thanks to a second half penalty winner from Hourihane.

Following this one-nil win Johnson confirmed that his former Oldham player, who has been without a club since leaving Doncaster at the end of last season, had signed on a short-term deal as for the game itself Roberts could have given Barnsley the lead as he went close.

El Khayati had Burton’s best chances before Scowen, who saw McCrory have more than one nibble at him, brought down for the penalty at the midway point of the second half. Hourihane (67), as he rarely does, made no mistake from 12-yards.

Burton should have levelled through Duffy, who fluffed a great chance, with the Brewers denied when Thiele smashed an effort against the bar from 30-yards as Barnsley held on for the one-nil win to get the season, following the League Cup win on penalties, up and running.
