Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with another defeat at Oakwell against Shrewsbury on Saturday.

A reaction to defeat last time round in the league, following the three-nil loss at Rochdale, was anticipated by Barnsley but the Reds got off to the worst possible start when Ellis (6) was able to force home a Lawrence corner.

Barnsley were level by half time though when Watkins found Winnall who beat Shrewsbury ‘keeper Leutwiler to make it one-all.

This, which wouldn’t have been ideal of course as all three points was the aim, looked likely to be the way this ended until Clark (90) saw his effort deflected home to hand Shrewsbury the win, a first of the season, and Barnsley back-to-back defeats with Swindon next up at Oakwell, so it doesn’t get any easier!
