Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with a win at Oakwell against Gillingham on Saturday.

First half goals from Pearson and Winnall were enough to give Barnsley a two-nil win, and get back to winning ways, against Gillingham with a second successive defeat suffered by the visitors.

Man United loanee Pearson (18), following up a freekick that wasn’t fully cleared, fired low into the goal from 20-yards to put Barnsley ahead early on.

On the stroke of half time Barnsley’s lead was doubled when Watkins, as he’s done a few times this season if he’s not been scoring, pulled the ball back to Winnall (45) who made it two.

Gillingham, who lost top spot in League 1 last weekend when beaten for a first time by Colchester, couldn’t breach the Barnsley defence with Ehmer’s header from a Loft freekick the closest they came but this hit the post.

The first half goals were enough, Barnsley will now be looking to build on this with some consistency.
