Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with a win over Bury at Oakwell on Sunday.

The loss of boss Lee Johnson, who opted to leave for former club Bristol City, was reacted to positively by Barnsley with a three-nil win secured over Bury to keep the winning run going. A seventh straight win leaves the Reds on to turn a relegation battle into a potential play-off push instead in what would be a remarkable turnaround!

Under the caretaker guidance of Johnson’s former assistant Tommy Wright and coach Paul Heckingbottom Barnsley were ahead on 20-minutes when Marley Watkins showed great ability to go on his own to open the scoring to leave the Reds one-up at the break.

A 17th-goal of the season from Sam Winnall, who you suspect will be one of those Johnson targets at his new club, came after Conor Hourihane had created his opening early in the second half.

Midway through the second period it was game over when Adam Hammill converted from Man United loanee Ashley Fletcher’s assist to complete the win over former boss David Flitcroft who continues to see his Bury side struggle after a promising start to the season, whereas Barnsley are now five-points off the top six.

Leon Clarke could have scored a consolation for Bury but when he found himself through on goal he could only shot wide.

Who was the Barnsley MotM in this game? That’s what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote.

Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most?
