Barnsley’s League 1 season got underway with a defeat at the Proact Stadium against Chesterfield on Saturday.

Most definitely not the opening to the season wanted by the Reds, and not the start too many would have expected Johnson’s side to make with Saunders’ Spireites, many feel they could struggle this season, coming back from behind to win three-one.

The Reds had gone ahead through Wilkinson in the first half but second half goals from O’Shea, Ebanks-Blake and Morsy saw Chesterfield turn the game around after the break.

It all started so well for Barnsley with Bolton loanee Wilkinson (4) working an opening to mark his debut with a goal early on, which was taken into the interval.

Chesterfield were level within minutes of the restart when O’Shea (49) fired past Davies to make it one-one.

Two-goals in a minute from the Spireites competed the comeback, firstly former Premier League striker, and a player known to Saunders from his days as his boss at Wolves, Ebanks-Blake (72) continues his battle back from serious injuries with this move and he kept his cool to finish.

Morsy (73) wrapped up this win a minute later with an effort from distance almost bringing him another goal but this 20-yard strike hit the post.
