Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with a win against Doncaster at Oakwell on Saturday.

Ashley Fletcher, with his second goal since arriving on loan from Man United, scored the only goal in a one-nil Barnsley win as the Reds got back to winning ways against Yorkshire rivals Doncaster.

With the game looking as though it could end in a goalless draw Fletcher scored on 81-minutes after Thorsten Stuckmann, who had denied the likes of Sam Winnall and Conor Hourihane, couldn’t hold another Hourihane effort with the striker following up to tap in the winner for the Reds.

It might still be a tall order but this eighth win in the last nine-matches means the play-offs are now seven-points away with Barnsley in 10th.

These were the other results.

We’ll see the leaders in action on Monday but from the chasing pack only Wigan (two-one) profited with them looking a good bit for a top two finish by winning at promotion rivals Walsall.

Gillingham (two-one) suffered a surprise defeat to Oldham at Boundary Park but this win has helped boost the Latics’ own survival hopes with Fleetwood (two-one) doing likewise with a win against in-form Scunthorpe at the Highbury Stadium.

It’s looking bleak for Colchester (five-two) at the foot of the table now though isn’t it with a lead lost in a heavy defeat at Gigg Lane to Bury leaving the U’s looking a near certainty to drop into League 2 now you feel?
