Barnsley have confirmed that Reece Wabara has now left Oakwell, and Preston midfielder Josh Brownhill has arrived on a loan deal.

Beginning with Wabara, he has left the club following the expiry of his deal with us. The 24 year old made 26 appearances having penned a six month contract in August of last year, and following his departure manager Lee Johnson explained to the Official Site.

‘Reece has been great and he’s been a genuine pleasure to work with. I honestly think the time Reece has had in the team has helped James Bree. We’ve needed to go through some basics with him. We felt we had to go back to basics on defending and the connection with the back four. I think he’s definitely ready and he’s got a good chance to show that.’

As for our new arrival, that’s Preston North End midfielder Brownhill and he moves to Oakwell initially on a one month youth loan spell.

The 20 year old will be eligible until after the Gillingham game on Saturday February 13, and he began life in Manchester United’s Academy before moving to Preston and signing his scholarship terms.

Johnson explained.

‘Josh is bright and energetic he’ll fit into our group well. He’ll bring strength in competition to the squad and I’m sure he’ll prove a positive addition over the next 28 days.’
