Barnsley are hoping to persuade Terry Butcher to swap a Champions League challenge for a relegation dog fight.

Talks will take place between the two parties in the next day or so. Inverness have given permission for these talks to take place but have stated they will do everything in their power to keep Butcher.

In my opinion it will take something special to persuade Butcher to come to Oakwell.

He is loved at Inverness and likes life up in Scotland. He has the team currently second in the Scottish Premier League with the real possibility of Champions League or Europa League qualification especially now that Rangers aren`t in the top flight.

At Barnsley he would face having to work miracles to keep the club up and have a tough task of gaining promotion the following season if the club were relegated.

The only thing Barnsley have in their favour is that they could probably pay him more than Inverness do but will money be enough to persuade him to move?

I think not. In my opinion he would be mad to leave his current position to come to Barnsley.

I can see this being no more than a few days of wasted talks and no new manager in place for the Leeds game.

Maybe he will be up for the challenge but I think it will take a special offer for him to even consider it.
