With the return of Danny Wilson as Barnsley manager, we take a brief look at his last stint at Oakwell and his playing career.

Wilson was a midfielder in his playing days and began his career at home town club Wigan.

He also played for Bury, Chesterfield, Nottingham Forest, Scunthorpe, Brighton, Luton and Sheffield Wednesday.

He signed for Barnsley in August 1993 as player coach with Viv Anderson as manager.

Anderson left to become Middlesbrough assistant manager in June 1994 and Wilson was installed as manager, as player-manager to begin with.

Wilson`s first two seasons in charge brought about impressive top half and mid table finishes.

He then made several astute pre-season signings in the pre-season of 1996-97 but few could have imagined what would follow.

Barnsley were promoted to the Premier League for the only time in their history and the scenes in the final home game against Bradford were unforgettable.

Wilson has never quite reached the success he had with Barnsley but comes with almost 1,000 games as a manger and is sure to get bums back on seats.
