Striker Sam Winnall was delighted to play his part in helping Barnsley end their three game winless run as we hosted Oldham Athletic last night.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference following his double strike on the day taking him to 20 goals for the campaign, a pleased Winnall explained.

‘Yeah it was a good night, in the end! We got there in the end and got the three points, that`s all that matters. We didn`t want to let them back in the game at half-time, the emphasis was on keeping a clean sheet and then us getting that next goal. Unfortunately we did concede, but thankfully a great set-piece by Conor Hourihane and Adam Hammill has led to a penalty and I`ve put it in the net, then we saw the game out for a huge three points! I think that`s the third time after a loss this season we`ve gone on to win. We did it after Southend, we did it after Gillingham and we`ve done it again today so it does show a lot of character for our dressing room, and we couldn`t be happier with the win today and it has put us back in with a shout.’

As for his 20th goal and the season milestone, he was questioned more about that and went on to say.

‘It`s not bad, but I`m greedy, I always want more! I just keep striving for more goals. I could have had more but that`s the life of a striker, you score some, you miss some. Thankfully today all that was required was two goals.’

With a few takers from the penalty spot this season, Winnall also said that he’d claimed any more for between now and the end of the season and Hourihane would have to wait his turn again.

‘To be fair to Conor he said after the Southend game that he`s missed two so I can have the next one. We waited a while before we got the next penalty but thankfully I was on the pitch still and I stepped up and put it in the net.’

With Burton Albion up next at the weekend, he ended by saying.

‘They`ve got a style of play that works for them and they`ve stuck to it all season. We`re going there full of confidence after this win and we want to go and get the three points.’
